Droid Bionic and the Ice Cream Sandwich system slowness
I had a the most fantastic and awesome Droid Bionic…. right up until Verizon pushed (OTA) me the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Droid Bionic and the Ice Cream Sandwich system slowness
Now any time I use the keyboard it’s slow, chunky and stutters, which means that Texting is a nightmare.
My wife’s Droid Bionic was fine and worked as good as ever. Mine was a wreck, I was ready to throw this phone out and start fresh, but I finally stumbled on a fix.
Here is how to clear the system cache. This will not remove any of your apps or other info, but it will remove parts of any GingerBread code that may be left over.
Clearing the system cache:
- Power down phone
- While holding both the volume up & down (simultaneously), briefly push the Power button to begin the boot process. It should bring you to a Menu system. If you see Fast Boot menu, power off and try again.
- Use volume down to navigate to ‘Recovery’, use volume up to select
- Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android, then you do Press volume up/down simultaneously
- Use volume rocker to navigate to ‘wipe cache’ and use power button to select (just a quick tap/push)
- Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to ‘reboot system now’ and use power button to select
After the Reboot my Droid Bionic was much more responsive. It was amazing
Keep in mind that this operating system will optimize your phone; give it up to three days after it was installed for things to settle down. It may be slow for a while, but things should improve within a few days. Your mileage may vary.
EDIT:
After a while, I was right back in the “slow” boat I was in before. After some digging I found these settings:
System Settings > Developer Options
- Background Process Limit – Select “at most 3 process running
These also helped quite a bit:
System Settings > Developer Options
- Transition Animation Scale: set to .5 or off.
- Window animation scale: set to .5 or off
- Force GPU Rendering (Check the box beside it)
